The qualified candidate will be part of the in vitro ADME section within PK Sciences at the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in Cambridge. Major responsibility includes planning and conducting in vitro experiments to investigate metabolic clearance of drug candidates for the optimization or characterization of ADME properties of new chemical entities (NCE) and communication with project teams to report, discuss results and assist in the design of experiments.
  • Design and conduct in vitro studies for evaluating metabolic stability using microsomes, hepatocyte, S9, recombinant enzymes or other relevant system to evaluate ADME properties of NCEs
  • Analyze samples using triple-quadrupole or high-resolution mass spectrometry instruments (e.g. Q-ToF), evaluate raw data and generate study report
  • Communicate results to project teams, provide scientific interpretations and assist in the design of tailor-made follow-up experiments for mechanistic studies to test hypothesis used to address suboptimal ADME properties.
  • Present scientific data within in vitro ADME, project team and contribute actively to scientific discussions
  • Collaborate with development project teams to design and execute in vitro studies to answer questions from health authorities
  • Assist in developing novel in vitro assays for improving translation of in vitro to in vivo clearance of NCEs
  • May have additional operational responsibilities (e.g., mentoring, lab coordination, report writing, instrument troubleshooting)

Minimum Requirements:
  • BS or MS in drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics or relevant field with 5 + yrs experience in drug discovery or development
  • Strong background in biochemistry, chemistry, pharmacology or analytical chemistry desirable
  • Experience using LC/MS instruments for sample analysis and liquid handling robotic systems
